23 - 26. X. 2008 PROTECTION OPERATIVE'S SUMMIT - POLAND
Between 23 and 26 October, a seminar for protection operators was organized in the E.S.A. TRAINING CENTER. Its motto was the familiarization with one’s own working procedures in order to organize the common protection realizations in the area of the European Union.
The seminar was opened with a special training package which aimed at the preparation of protection services for the work with VIPs during EURO 2012. Agents operators from dozen-odd countries such as France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Finland, Germany, New Zealand. The issues discussed during the classes included the six main tendencies of training in the field of VIP protection techniques.
The first one was the tactical training which comprises the issues connected with the protection techniques used in the event of attack, the behavior of individual agents and the proper use of firearms. The agents were familiarized with the use of a handgun with extension. The practical classes were supplemented by a lecture by the instructor – an agent operator of DEP who deals with the international realizations on the ADVANCE WORK actions in personal protection.
The second thematic field is shooting skills with the use of optional handgun accessories i.e. laser target designators, tactical lighting, tritium fiber-optic aiming devices, butts, extended magazines… taking place in the firing range, aiming at special targets, in a room where the aiming line is disturbed by crowd simulation and limited visibility. One part of the training was the demonstration of abilities and skills of the E.S.A. instructors and the testing of bullet-proof jackets resistance.
The third segment of the training session dealt with the use of paramedic methods, such as medical and rescue equipment and tactical packages which are used in protection, the use of procedures and the practical rescue-related classes. The key element of the training course was the presentation of simulated rescuing actions in the event of task-oriented tactical training.
Subsequently, the agents had the opportunity to check their driving abilities and the type of behavior which can be encountered while driving a protection vehicle. The classes were conducted with the use of the following vehicles: Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Mercedes ML. Additionally, the issues of using utility vehicles of the brand Toyota LC during the HR realization were discussed.
The next part of the meeting was the demonstration and presentation of BAS techniques as the alternative method of reaction to danger. Close combat and conducting intervention actions were presented as the elements which constituted a massive support and the increase of agents’ fitness. A great honor for all participants of the seminar was the fact that some of the system’s elements were demonstrated by its creator, namely doctor Andrzej Bryl himself.
The seminar was closed with the lecture on the legislative solutions used in the European Union countries and in international legal acts which relate to the use of firearms, work in personal protection, the possibilities of use of legal protection as well the use of means of immediate constraint. The lecture was supported by the presentation of realistic situations in firing contact.
