29.IX. – 02.X.2007 HIGH RISK TRAINING - KENYA
ESA's instructors team together with dr Andrzej Bryl set off to take part in Mobile Training Team courses in Kenya. The trip was due to the invitation from Armaments Ltd., company specializing in CP services in Eastern Africa and security services in high-risk countries.
The lectures were organized for the exclusive security units: PSU (Presidential Service Unit) and GSU (General Service Unit). Security agents, usually performing protection tasks in Kenya, Somalia and Uganda as a private operators, also took part in some of the training activities. Only the best of the company's and governmental security teams employees were admitted to take part in the training.
Training locations included indoor shooting range in Nairobi and outdoor shooting range in Ngong. Training base as well as logistics were flawless as for traverse conditions. The landscape's character together with the training spots enabled to lead the training at ease. There has been a whole lot of handguns, rifles, carbines and smoothbore guns throughout the courses.
The BAS 3 System was introduced by its creator – dr Andrzej Bryl, during the courses. The Academy founder not only presented the advantages of the System but also displayed its strong sides in an confrontational manner. BAS 3 System made a huge impression on the robust African operators, who seemed to be convinced of their strenght's infallibility. Psychomental training, forcing pain reactions and ruthless techniques of destructive character were completely new for the trainees.
A special tactic-shooting training was led by worldwide known ESA instructor – Rapid. He presented how to make an effective use of handguns and how to fire with the upmost precision. Coverage, pair-work and VIP protection techniques were the basics of tactic training. All the activities were mainly practical. Every trainee had the chance to perform a given set of exercises with the assistance of an instructor. On the whole, the training was very intense and dynamic, without the needless stoppage. Theory only when necessary.
Another important element of the training was devoted to the notion of a convoy, a trap, an evacuation and an attack repulse. All the activities were performed on vehicles in motion. Getting through control points as well as attacks on convoys are a huge problem in Africa. Exercise tasks included forming a convoy, attack repulses and evacuation techniques. The instructors put an emphasize on shooting positions, firing from a vehicle and using the vehicle as a shield, often the only available on site.
Performing tasks with active operators showed the ways of using one's own experience in planning and organization. Security and protection activities in such an unstable place which Africa still is, were also discussed. Another vast set of topics covered was presenting logistic preparations to VIP protection during mass events such as the forthcoming FIFA SOUTH AFRICA 2010.
The trip was ended with the vision of security cooperation and organizing a seminar in Kenya devoted to the problem of piracy within the Aden Bay. It will feature agents-operators experienced in the rescue of hostages taken by the Somalian pirates, as well as crew of the hijacked ships. The seminar is planned on December 2009.
